On the evening of August 2nd, the heart of Odiáxere in Lagos will come alive with the sights and sounds of authentic Portuguese folk traditions. The XXXV Festival de Folclore invites locals and visitors to celebrate a timeless expression of Portugal’s cultural identity.
This vibrant event is organized by the Rancho Folclórico e Etnográfico de Odiáxere, with support from the Lagos City Council (CM Lagos), Parish Councils of Odiáxere and São Gonçalo, Clube Desportivo de Odiáxere, and the Portuguese Folklore Federation.
A Celebration of Tradition
True to its motto, “A tradição ainda é o que era” (“Tradition remains as it was”), the festival preserves and promotes Portuguese folklore through music, dance, costumes, and storytelling. The event will feature performances by four celebrated folk groups from different regions of Portugal:
- Rancho Folclórico e Etnográfico de Odiáxere (Algarve)
- Rancho Folclórico “As Azeitoneiras” – S. Bento do Cortiço, Estremoz
- Rancho Folclórico dos Moleanos – Alcobaça
- Rancho Folclórico da Correlhã – Ponte de Lima
Live Music and Traditional Dance
Following the performances, accordionist Fábio Muchacho will host a traditional dance, creating a festive atmosphere under the stars. It’s the perfect way to experience the community spirit and joy of folk celebrations.
