The Marchas Populares return to the heart of Lagos from June 11 to 13, bringing back the festive atmosphere and strong community spirit that make this one of the city’s most cherished traditions.

Organized by the Municipality of Lagos, the event transforms Praça do Infante into a large open‑air festival, complete with food stalls, live music, dancing, and parades featuring both local groups and invited marching troupes from across the Algarve and the country. This year’s theme, “Lagos – Between Traditions and the Multicultural Sea,” pays tribute to the city’s identity, its historical roots, and its centuries‑old connection to the ocean.
The program also includes a variety of musical and dance performances featuring the Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1.º de Maio, the Rancho Folclórico e Etnográfico de Odiáxere, the Orquestra Ligeira de Lagos, the Associação de Dança de Lagos, Helena Candeias, and the Ballet Academy Dança & Arte Sofia Rodrigues. Each evening concludes in true arraial style, with lively dances led by Humberto Silva, Cláudio Rosário & Ricardo Glória, and Filomena Baptista.
To accommodate the event, Praça do Infante will be closed to traffic on all three days from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
As June is a festive month throughout the municipality, other localities will also celebrate the Santos Populares. Highlights include the São João Festival (June 19–21) in Barão de São João, the Santos Populares Festival (June 23, 24, 26, 27, and 28) in Praça d’Armas, and the São Pedro Festivities (June 28) in Bensafrim.
With free admission, the Marchas Populares de Lagos promise three days of community spirit, music, and tradition, inviting both residents and visitors to celebrate one of the most emblematic expressions of Portuguese popular culture.
Lagos View Apartment and Lagos Alegre Apartment are just 10 minutes walking from the place where the celebrations that place.
