Tradition and folklore say that taking a bath on August 29th wards off evil spirits and is equivalent to taking twenty-nine baths.
Its origins are uncertain, possibly dating back to ancient times and linked to end-of-summer rituals, or perhaps a result of Arab heritage. The truth is that today it is one of the most popular traditions in Lagos and a reason for a grand celebration.
In addition to the nighttime swim, there will be historical reenactments, food and drinks, parades of traditional and modern swimwear, and plenty of live music that will be divided between the city (Cais da Solaria and Jardim da Constituição) and the parish of Luz, with the latter featuring three stages in one night.

Note 1: Lagos City Council provides free continuous transportation (41-seater bus), from midnight to 2:30 AM, between Escola Tecnopolis (Lagos) and Rua Direita in Vila da Luz (stop near the church).
Note 2: Due to the August 29th Bath Festival in Lagos, traffic will be closed on Avenida dos Descobrimentos between 8:00 PM and 1:00 AM, from the BP station (turning point) to the Lagos Volunteer Fire Department (crossroads).
