Discover the Best Beaches in Lagos, Algarve

Planning a holiday in the Algarve? Lagos, one of southern Portugal’s most beautiful coastal towns, offers an incredible variety of beaches—each with its own charm, scenery, and experience. Whether you’re looking for postcard-perfect views, hidden coves, or a peaceful spot for sunbathing, you’ll find it all right here.
🌊 Central Lagos Beaches – Walkable and Charming

If you’re staying near the historic center of Lagos, you’re in luck. Some of the most accessible beaches are just minutes away:
- Praia da Batata – The perfect beach for first-timers, located right next to town. Great for families and beginners.
- Praia dos Estudantes – A small, scenic beach connected to Praia da Batata by a picturesque stone tunnel.
- Praia do Pinhão – A peaceful, cliff-backed cove ideal for those who want to relax close to town.

All three beaches are surrounded by stunning cliffs, offering natural beauty and shelter from the wind.
🏖️ Iconic Beaches – Picture-Perfect Spots
No visit to Lagos is complete without seeing the famous postcard beaches:
- Praia Dona Ana – Often ranked among the best beaches in Portugal, this golden-sand beach is framed by dramatic limestone cliffs and turquoise waters.
- Praia do Camilo – One of the most photographed beaches in the Algarve, accessible via a wooden staircase that leads you to crystal-clear waters and breathtaking views.
Both beaches are within walking distance from the center of Lagos, or you can catch a tourist train or local bus.
🌅 Hidden Gems – For the Adventurous Traveler
Looking for something more secluded?
- Praia dos Pinheiros – Just a short cliff-top walk from Praia do Camilo, this “secret” cove is unofficially clothing-optional and rarely crowded.
- Praia do Canavial – Located a 20-minute walk from the Ponta da Piedade lighthouse, this quiet beach is another hidden gem, also unofficially nude-friendly. A short hike is required to reach it, making it a peaceful escape.
Both beaches offer a more natural, untouched Algarve experience, perfect for those looking to explore beyond the tourist trail.
🌅 The Golden Shore of Lagos – Meia Praia
Lagos’ largest beach stretches for over 4km (2.5 miles). Backed by dunes, it offers space for everyone, even in the high season. Although it doesn’t have the towering cliffs and rock formations of the other beaches in town, it stands out for being accessible to the disabled, for being suitable for watersports, and for nearly-deserted spots where some end up sunbathing nude. It’s located a short walk from the train station, but if you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking.
Praia do Porto de Mós
It’s located outside the center, so this sandy beach has more locals than tourists. Many of them are surfers, as this is where you’re more likely to have the best waves. It’s Lagos’ second-largest beach, stretching for over one kilometer and guaranteeing enough space, even in July and August. You need to walk for about a half hour from central Lagos to reach it, or to take a bus. If you’re driving, you may park at the large parking lot.
🗺️ Explore Ponta da Piedade
Right above these hidden beaches, the Ponta da Piedade headland offers some of the most breathtaking coastal views in Portugal. With its iconic lighthouse, sea arches, caves, and golden cliffs, it’s a must-visit whether you’re hiking, taking a boat tour, or capturing unforgettable photos.
